My Best Advice and Why?

The best advice I was able to give one of my peers on their project was about projecting their voice better along with involving the audience more in their speech. I saw this as a common issue as many of my peer’s essays that I had reviewed required them to project their voice. I myself could have afforded to speak up as well. I found this to be good advice as I know better than anyone a projecting voice make for a more powerful; speech. I personally have a difficult time speaking up which I know can lead to the audience missing some parts and making the overall speech less effective. I felt that becoming more involved with the audience was good advice as it gave more character to the speech. Adding questions and talking directly to the audience not only makes them more interested but it makes their speech more lively and interesting.

The best Advice Given and Why?

I could say that all of the advice I got on my speech was good advice as I had much to work on going into peer review. This being said the best advice I got was about looking less at my script and engaging the audience more. I also needed to make a better connection between my personal struggles and how other people can improve on their struggles. I found these both to be really great advice as I know I definitely look down at my notes too much and need to engage the audience better to make them feel involved. I thought the connection advice for my speech was also great advice as my speech is too personal. I need to talk less about my personal struggles and more about how others can improve their academic abilities. I also need to find a balance between these two to make my speech seem more like I’m advising others to not do what I do wrong academically. Overall I felt these tips of advice were what I needed to improve my speech the most.

Reflection After Each Peer Review

I found the two rounds of peer review to be quite helpful in giving me the right criteria to make a well rounded paper. I had mixed reviews on my paper going into class as I had expected since it was the dry dry run. I was told that I had a strong personal connection which I tied in well with my goals for academic success. I agreed but I admit that they were a little lengthy. They also had pretty strong examples of what I needed to improve on which backed up the main idea of my paper.

As for the areas that I could improve on, there are a few aspects I had to agree could use a little work. While my personal connections were solid, they seemed to drag on a bit which made my paper a bit unbalanced. When I put too much detail into the source of my academic issues, I fell short on the sections about my improvement or advice. I also make the paper a bit choppy when I drag it out. As for the presentation side of my paper, I could afford to practice looking at my paper less.

Overall Project Reflection(Journal #10)

Now that I have completed my first project presentation for communications, I can say that I am incredibly relieved. When I sat down after receiving applause and a few pointers, it felt like there was a weight lifted off of my shoulders. This was because I tend to have high anxiety when it comes to presenting anything so I was dreading that part of it. I also came a long way with my essay and thought there might have been much that I had to work on. When I had first written it, my essay didn’t quite gauge the audience and talked too much about my personal issues. After a few weeks I had made many changes and shaped my essay to be more personable with more inclusive segments and even some humor. That being said, I was still nervous my essay wasn’t presentation worthy. I felt way better after learning how similar my project was to other classmates. I also gained a lot of positive feedback and questions which helped the audience gain a better understanding of the overall idea of my essay. The feedback I found most helpful was about how I used some segments to ask my audience questions like if they space out. I also talked about my personal shortcomings in a way that helped the audience relate well. Though the start of my speech was rough, it was definitely an educational experience which I will use to improve my next essay.
